What Central Minnesota now knows as Lumber One was once just a tiny lumber yard in Avon, Minnesota. From its modest beginnings, the Avon Lumber Yard grew and prospered, and in 1962, Terry Schmid, an enthusiastic, long-time employee, purchased half interest in the company. The lumber yard continued to prosper under Schmid's direction, and in 1967, Schmid purchased the remaining shares of the rapidly growing business. That same year he expanded further by purchasing the Cold Spring Lumber Yard, and by 1987, both yards merged and began operating under the new name - Lumber One.

Lumber One specializes in quality new home construction at modest prices. Between 1980 and 2001, Lumber One built more than 1,500 new homes ranging from $50,000 to more than $1 million. Whether your home is in the $50,000 or $1 million range, rest assured that quality is always Lumber One's number one priority.

The company develops prime lots and home sites, ready-to-build home plans, and executive dream homes as well as model homes.

Lumber One’s lumber yard roots are alive and well, too. The company supplies building supply materials to some of the area’s finest builders.

Today, after more than 40 years in business, Lumber One’s licensed contractors continue to build and supply materials for hundreds of residential homes, townhomes, apartment units, motels and other commercial buildings throughout central Minnesota.
